Position Description
Title: Director of Children and Youth
Purpose: We are seeking an energetic, creative, and compassionate individual who can provide Waverly Presbyterian Church with direction and management of our children and youth ministry, nurture Christian faith and discipleship, and develop meaningful relationships so that children and youth feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

Accountability: Accountable to the Pastor as head of staff, Personnel, and the Christian Ed committee.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, manage, and support volunteers for children and youth programs
- Oversee, recommend, and at times lead appropriate curricula for children and youth
- Create and lead training for Sunday School volunteers in conjunction with pastor
- Build positive, encouraging relationships with children, youth, and families
- Work with the pastor to incorporate children and youth in our worship
- Create child-centered, youth-centered, and intergenerational programming, including youth and all-church retreats, social gatherings, etc.
- Create opportunities for children and youth to engage in mission
- Create opportunities for children and youth to explore the benefits and ways of giving their time, talents and treasure back to church and community
- Regularly participate in and assist with Sunday School and Children and Youth Activities
- Work with the pastor to create and share children’s messages during Sunday worship
- Manage and rotate the resources within our “Wiggles and Wonder” space (a dedicated area in our Sanctuary) throughout the church year and according to the church calendar/seasons
Qualifications:
- Four year college degree
- Experience in education, instruction, and faith development
- Knowledge of child and youth development
- Ability to articulate the theology of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to children and youth
- Interpersonal skills necessary to relate well to families and volunteers
- Appropriate clearances for working with children
Evaluations: Performance reviews will be conducted annually.
Salary/Benefits: $12,500/yr at 10 hours per week, including Sundays. Benefits include four weeks vacation and one week continuing education. Opportunity to buy in to the PCUSA’s Board of Pensions and Medical Benefits
