Welcome to Waverly!
In our church community we seek to love intentionally, love extravagantly, and love unconditionally. We are committed to making this love real in the lives of people inside and outside our community. We have found that by focusing on the world outside our church we have built a stronger church within.
We are called to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly. As a response to this call, and the sense of family we hold so dear, we are committed to outreach and fellowship with unique intergenerational and creative activities, including our puppet ministry, the Waverly Opera House (an annual melodrama performance), our leadership and participation in the East End Crop Walk, volunteer opportunities with Wilkinsburg Community Ministries and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, our Holiday Festival and Cookie Walk, family dinners throughout the year, and much more!
We are committed to mission and partnerships. We dedicate 10% of our pledged dollars to community partners before any other funds are allocated, and spend much of our time in service, as mission is central to the heart and activity of the church. We are a Matthew 25 Congregation of the PCUSA and are dedicated to that vision.
We value diversity in all its forms and affirm and celebrate people of every race, age, financial condition, gender, sexual orientation, and physical ability. We seek to learn from each others’ differences and similarities and are committed to spiritual growth. We are an institutional mission partner of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus and part of the Inclusive Presbyterian Churches of Pittsburgh.
As Waverly’s newest pastor, I’ve seen these commitments and values in action over and over again. Even when debating issues fraught with tension and emotions, individuals in our community put love first. We listen. We learn. We try to grow as we seek common ground.
We hope you will join us!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Caitlin
